United graduate set for contract extension?

Manchester United are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Angel Gomes regarding a new and improved contract with the club.

The teenager has made just seven appearances for the Red Devils since his debut in 2017 and three of those have come during the ongoing campaign.

Gomes’ present deal with the club expires at the end of the season but Fabrizio Romano claims that talks are already underway over an extension with the club.

United have shown the intention of extending the contract of the younger players at the club and Mason Greenwood was recently handed with a new long-term contract.

Gomes has yet to establish himself with the United first team but reports indicate that the club are looking to slowly integrate him and other young graduates ahead of next season.

The Red Devils are scheduled to face Liverpool in tonight’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford. The game remains a potential must-win as they are already eight points off the top four places.

Dani Ceballos news

According to various reports in Spain, Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos, currently on loan from Real Madrid is keen on signing a permanent deal at the Emirates Stadium rather than return to his parent club.

Ceballos has recently gone on record stating that he is ‘very happy’ in North London and that leaving Real Madrid was the right move for his career. According to the Daily Mail, the Spanish midfielder has held talks with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez expressing his intention to join the Gunners on a permanent basis. In the past, Ceballos was quoted saying that

“I’m at Arsenal right now and I feel very good, I knew I definitely wanted to leave (and) I was right to leave Madrid. Right now I’m where I want to be, and I am very happy. My idea was to leave, play and enjoy football. Over the past two years, I have not done that. I was right to go seeing as I’m in the Spain squad.”

Ceballos has become an important player for Arsenal under Unai Emery. The Spaniard has made 11 appearances for the North London side, scoring one goal and assisting twice. He plays an important role in bringing creativity to the side and certainly looks to be a good fit for Arsenal. If Arsenal manage to convince him to join permanently, he would become a central figure in the side.

Lampard reacts after Chelsea’s third-straight league win

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has expressed his pleasure after the Blues registered a slender 1-0 triumph over Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.

The west London giants were the dominant team against the Magpies but they had to work hard for the victory with Steve Bruce‘s side putting up a resolute defensive display.

Marcos Alonso eventually made the difference with the winning strike in the 73rd minute and Lampard is pleased that his team are moving in the right direction.

“It sounds good. We know we want to be challenging in the top four and from a slightly difficult start it’s a good sign that we are moving in the right direction,” he was quoted as saying on BBC Sport.

The Capital outfit have temporarily moved to the fourth position in the standings with 17 points on the board but they could be leapfrogged by Arsenal, should they beat Sheffield United on the road on Monday night.

The Blues’ immediate focus will shift to the Champions League where they are scheduled to face Ajax away from home. Lampard’s side are presently in their group with four points after the opening two European games.

Anthony Martial eager to take responsibility with Manchester United

Martial keen to score regular goals for United

French striker Anthony Martial has said that he is eager to take the responsibility of leading the line for Manchester United after being rewarded with the number nine shirt.

The young forward started his United career with the jersey but he had to sacrifice the shirt between 2016 and 2019 where the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku wore the number.

For the current season, Martial has taken back the number nine shirt after the departure of Lukaku and he is now looking forward to contributing regularly to the scoresheet for the club.

“Now that I’ve taken the No 9 shirt back once again, all he [Ole] has said to me is that I have a lot of responsibility and that I have to score goals, so that’s what I am trying to do,” he told Sky Sports.

Martial has not featured for the Red Devils since the end of August with a thigh problem but he is likely to make his comeback during Sunday’s league clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that the Frenchman may not participate from the starting XI after just returning to training but it remains to be seen whether there is any surprise on the cards.

Jermaine Jenas slams Manchester United’s decision to keep Anthony Martial

Jenas slams Man United’s transfer decision

Former Premier League star Jermaine Jenas has said that Manchester United should have sold Anthony Martial during the summer rather than parting ways with Romelu Lukaku.

Martial penned a new long-term deal with the Red Devils at the beginning of the year but he has since struggled to justify the contract with a run of inconsistent performances.

Besides this, the Frenchman has also tended to sustain injuries which have kept him on the sidelines and Jenas feels the Red Devils may have offloaded the wrong player during the summer transfer window.

“Since Martial has been at Manchester United, I would say he has a month and a half, two months a season then he goes absolutely missing,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“You talk injuries but it happens every single season at United. Why get rid of Lukaku when you’ve got someone like Martial who is doing that every week.”

Martial has failed to make a single appearance for the Red Devils since the 2-1 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace in August, where he sustained a thigh injury.

The Frenchman has returned to training ahead of the Liverpool game but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stated that the forward is unlikely to make the starting XI with the current level of fitness.

Manchester United receive surprise injury boost ahead of Liverpool clash

De Gea back for Liverpool clash?

Manchester United have received a surprise injury boost ahead of the Liverpool game with goalkeeper David de Gea reporting for the team’s meeting at the Lowry Hotel.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper sustained a groin problem on international duty with Spain earlier this week and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that he is likely to be sidelined for the Reds clash.

However, in the lead up to the game, De Gea has reported for the team meeting and it appears that he could make the starting XI against the Reds on Sunday afternoon.

Sergio Romero has been fancied to make his first Premier League appearance of the season and the same has been talked up through the club’s twitter account in the past few days.

Until yesterday, Solskjaer said that De Gea won’t make the matchday squad for the weekend clash and it will be interesting to see whether the Spaniard has proved his fitness.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will consider resigning from Manchester United

Solskjaer open to walking out of the United job

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will reportedly consider resigning from the head coach role at Manchester United, should their form fail to improve in the coming months.

The Norwegian tactician was handed with a three-year contract in March this year after transforming the club’s fortunes in temporary charge for three months.

However, the club ended the previous campaign on a sour note and that trend has continued this term where they have registered just nine points from the opening eight league games.

Solskjaer continues to hold the support of the United board despite the current run of results but Metro claims that he won’t hesitate to walk out of the job, should the club continue with their poor string of results.

United have won just one of the previous five outings across all competitions and that came during the League Cup third round tie against Rochdale, where they were still disappointing and required a penalty shoot-out to progress.

Manchester United to extend contract of experienced midfielder

Matic set for United extension

Manchester United are reportedly considering the option of renewing the contract of midfielder Nemanja Matic through the extension clause available.

The Serbia international has dropped down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this term and he has made just two starts in the Premier League.

As a result, he has been linked with a mid-season move to Inter Milan but the Red Devils seem reluctant to accept the proposal by extending his existing deal, The Mail reports.

Matic’s current contract expires at the end of the campaign but the Red Devils are likely to keep him beyond that period by triggering the 12-month option inserted into his deal.

United are scheduled to host Liverpool in tomorrow’s Premier League contest and Matic could be handed with a starting spot with Paul Pogba nursing an ankle concern while Fred has simply failed to impress.

The Red Devils are currently experiencing their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign and they could drop eight points off the top four, should they succumb to a defeat against Liverpool.

Greenwood: pens new United deal

Up and coming teenager Mason Greenwood has signed a new contract with Manchester United, signalling the club’s intent to make the England youth international an important member of the first team in the near future. Greenwood has put pen to paper on a contract with United until 2023.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has yet to expose Greenwood to too much playing time, but will be delighted to have brought through the player as a bit-part performer so far this season.

“Mason has progressed through our outstanding academy and we are delighted with the progress he has made,” Solskjaer said.

“At such a young age, he already has great pace and intelligence and he is such a natural finisher. Since he came into the first team, he has really impressed everyone with his drive and attitude, he has all the attributes to become a top player.”

“Having grown up as a Manchester United fan, playing for the first team is a real dream come true,” Greenwood said of his new deal.

“I know that, when I play for this club, I represent the whole academy and I want to repay the faith that my coaches have shown in me with my performances on the pitch. I am learning all the time from the manager and his coaching staff and I know that this is the perfect club to help me reach my potential.”
