Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praise on midfielder Scott McTominay, who produced a dominant performance against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last night.
The Scotland international made his comeback from an ankle injury to face Spurs and he produced a solid display in the centre of the park where he controlled the proceedings alongside Fred.
Speaking after the 2-1 win over Spurs, Solskjaer said that McTominay is almost undroppable at the moment and lauded the midfielder’s physical presence and leadership qualities.
“You can almost say he (McTominay) is undroppable at the moment. I wasn’t gonna try to push him through for this game. The physical presence he gives us, the leadership he gives us in midfield also releases Fred,” he told via Goal.com.
McTominay has featured in all but two Premier League games for the Red Devils this season and he has been regarded by many as the standout performer in the club’s midfield.
United have lacked the presence of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic through injuries in recent months but the midfield duo are likely to return to action in the next couple of weeks.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has provided a fresh update on the fitness of Tammy Abraham following the Blues’ 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The England international missed the West Ham United game with a hip problem but he was able to make his comeback against the Villains on Wednesday night where he bagged the opening goal.
However, he was unable to complete the 90 minutes as he was substituted with a possible knee concern but Lampard has dismissed suggestions that he could miss the forthcoming league clash against Everton.
In a press conference covered by Football.London, he said: “It doesn’t seem too bad. Tammy at the moment is Tammy. A striker near the top, showing his all round game. A personality in the dressing room.”
Abraham has been the stand out performer for the Blues in the attack with 12 goals and four assists and he will be hoping to continue the good form on the trip to Merseyside this weekend.
Chelsea are reportedly confident that they can beat the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid in the pursuit of Borussia Dortmund attacker Jadon Sancho.
The England international has been a consistent performer for the Bundesliga side over the past two years and he has already bagged seven goals and nine goals for the club this term.
Despite this, there has been a sense of uncertainty regarding the attacker’s future a the club with manager Lucien Favre recently criticising him in public for his attitude.
According to Goal.com, the Blues are eyeing a swoop for the former Manchester City graduate and they are prepared to break their transfer record with a £100m plus bid.
It is added that Sancho shares a close relationship with fellow compatriots Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi from the England youth ranks and the Blues are aiming to lure the teenager with the influence of the duo.
Chelsea have already served nearly half of their year-long transfer ban but they are increasingly positive of winning their appeal to sign new players next month.
Meanwhile, Dortmund have made the decision to keep hold of Sancho until the summer at the least and it remains to be seen whether their stance changes during the forthcoming transfer window.
Arsenal are reportedly prepared to offer Hector Bellerin in a part-exchange deal to sign Merih Demiral from Juventus next month.
Bellerin has been with the Gunners since the summer of 2011 and he has racked nearly 200 appearances in all competitions for the club.
Of late, there has been speculation through his agent that he could favour a move to the Serie A and Calciomercato claims that could be realistic possibility when the transfer window reopens.
The same publication cites that the Gunners are desperate to sign Demiral to strengthen the central defensive department and Bellerin could be used as a makeweight to significantly reduce the £34m price tag set by Juventus.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are also in the running for Demiral’s services and they could yet hamper the Gunners’ plans by proposing a straight-cash deal for the Turkey international.
Demiral has been exceptional at the international level alongside Leicester City‘s Caglar Soyuncu. He has not got the chance to express himself at Juventus with just one appearance since his summer move from Sassuolo.
The Red Devils are believed to be keen on making a mid-season swoop for the Denmark international, whose contract with Spurs is due to expire at the end of the season.
According to The Athletic, the Red Devils will seek to lower Spurs’ valuation for Eriksen next month and they are prepared to offer Matic as a makeweight.
Matic has been on the sidelines with an unspecified injury over the past few months and reports have indicated that he may have played his final game for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side.
The former Chelsea man has made just three appearances for United in the Premier League this term and he currently finds himself behind the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira in the selection order.
Matic has not featured for the Red Devils since the 0-0 draw at AZ Alkmaar in early October.
German giants Borussia Dortmund have no plans of parting ways with Jadon Sancho in the New Year amid the speculated interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
The England international has been reported to be unsettled due to the recent criticism of his attitude from manager Lucien Favre and there have been claims that he could leave the Bundesliga side in the New Year.
According to Bild, Dortmund have no desire to cash in on their prized asset at the turn of the year and they are prepared to wait until the summer before considering his future.
Manchester United and Real Madrid have recently been linked with a £100m swoop for Sancho and reports have also claimed that Chelsea could join the race once their transfer ban concludes.
Chelsea are not permitted to make any new signings until July 2020 but they are said to be confident of reducing the transfer ban after making their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Chelsea will entertain Aston Villa in tonight’s Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have lost the last two league games but they will be hoping to return to winning ways against the Villains, who don’t have the best of records on the road with just four points from seven games.
Kepa Arrizabalaga will certainly start between the sticks. The Spaniard has been culpable to some poor mistakes in his distribution but he has made up for the same with crucial saves.
Further forward, Lampard is unlikely to opt for three central midfielders and one of Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante won’t feature. It could be Kovacic making way for Kante, who started the previous game on the bench.
In the attack, Willian and Tammy Abraham should return to the mix for the right wing and striker roles respectively. Christian Pulisic may slot into the number 10 position in order for Callum Hudson-Odoi to occupy the left-wing spot.
Mason Mount has started in all but one league game for the Blues this season but his recent dip in form could offer Hudson-Odoi with the chance to re-establish himself in the starting lineup.
Predicted Chelsea XI vs Aston Villa (4-2-3-1): Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Tomori, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho; Hudson-Odoi, Willian, Abraham, Pulisic.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said that Tammy Abraham will be offered with every opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
The England international picked up a hip problem during the Champions League clash against Valencia last month and he has since missed the Premier League meeting against West Ham United, where the Blues succumbed to a surprise defeat.
Speaking ahead of the Villains clash, Lampard has indicated that his striker is still in a bit of pain and a late fitness test may determine his involvement against Dean Smith’s side.
“We are giving him every opportunity to play tomorrow. We will make the call tomorrow, he has a little bit of pain. He was in good form, he is always keen, he is trying his best,” he told the club’s website.
The west London giants have lost back-to-back games in the Premier League since the international break. This has reduced their advantage for the fourth position to just six points.
